R y a  K i h l s t e d t  is a self taught artist who plays with many mediums; collage, silk screen, ink, paint. Inspired by her grandmother, who she made art with from the time she was little, Rya works with magazines, paper,  silk screen inks to create bold, dynamic, colorful and sometimes deceptively simple images to evoke an emotional response. Rya creates a world that her viewer can feel, with color or shape, to tell a story or convey a feeling. She is interested in stripping away, layering, reframing and exploring the space between our public and private worlds, often with a lens towards what it means to be a female in the world.
